A few weeks back, a gal I knew from high school messaged me asking if I could shoot her senior pictures for her. I initially thought “this girl is a nut job” because WHY? Anyone that follows along with my photography probably notices the trend in what I typically shoot- plants, animals, food…anything but people. Portraits aren’t my thing. They never have been. That’s not because I don’t want to do them, but because I’m too nervous to begin. Where do I start? How do I, the most socially awkward person on earth, build up enough courage to tell people how to pose or what to do? How can I walk around with a stranger all day without making us both miserable and uncomfortable? After about 200 times asking, “are you SURE you want ME to do this” and her responding, “yes, woman” I decided to bite the bullet.
AND I’M SO GLAD I DID.
Not only did the pictures turn out way better than I had ever imagined, but I had such a great time getting to know her and trying my hand at a different style of photography. The idea of fearing the day becoming unbearably awkward seemed so silly the second we got together. All of this time spent just barely knowing each other seems wasted. This girl is the bomb. I’m so happy to call her a pal. Thanks for believing in me, Ashley. Congratulations on this major life milestone of yours. I’m excited to see where the future takes you and our newfound friendship.
OH, yeah! Did I mention she was absolutely adorable? Because, well, she totally is. Does this woman even take a bad picture?
I love you so. Thanks for making the world a brighter place each day. GO TAKE IT ON!
